 Norton AntiVirus

The following screenshots will show you how to set up Norton AntiVirus to work with SmugMug's Simple Uploader.

On the Norton Antivirus Tab, expand the "Settings" options and then expand "Web Browsing" so that it looks like this:

Then click on "Internet Worm Protection" and hit "configure".  On the following page, click the "General Rules" button:

Click on "Add" at the bottom of the window that pops up:

Choose "allow" and then hit "next".

Hit "next" with "Connections from other computers" selected.

Choose "Only the computers and sites listed below" and hit the "add" button.  When the window pops up, choose "individually" and enter "*.smugmug.net".

Hit "OK" and then hit the "add" button again and add another one "Individually" for "*.smugmug.com". After that, the page should look like this:

Hit "next". On the next page, choose "all types of communication". Hit "next" on the subsequent page as well.

Then name the rule "SmugMug" so you remember what it does, and hit "next" one last time. The page should now look like this:

Hit "Finish". You are now back on the page of Rules. Hit "Okay" to close that, then you can hit "okay" to close the Norton AntiVirus settings. Go restart your browser and try uploading again!

Norton 360

1.  From the main window, click on Settings.

2.  Click on Firewall Protection

3.  Click on Traffic Rules tab

4.  From this point, the instructions are the same as the ones above for Norton AntiVirus.  (NOTE:  In the instructions above for Norton AV, the term is Internet Worm Protection.  In Norton 360, it is called Firewall Protecton. )

Norton Internet Security

The recommended steps are:

1. Click the Norton Internet Security tab
2. Click the blue settings bar
3. Click Web Browsing
4. Click Personal Firewall, Configure.
5. On the sidebar, click Advanced Settings
6. Under General rules click configure

Now go up to the top of this page, and use the screenshots starting with the third screenshot (the instructions from this point on are the same as for Norton AntiVirus.

The below instructions for Norton Internet Security will disable blocking of Aurigma on any site (not just SmugMug):

These screenshots and instructions will set up Norton Internet Security to allow SmugMug's Simple Uploader which is powered by Aurigma ActiveX, and Norton blocks by default.

You'll see this error:

So go to Norton, NIS Tab:

Choose the Settings bar,  instrusion prevention, configure, then select the "Signature exclusions" button.

Scroll down to the 2 Aurigma choices and UNcheck them, click OK.

Apply and OK and done!  Go back to your SmugMug page and refresh it or go back to the gallery and click Add Photos.

Norton would not let me enter *.smugmug.net or *.smugmug.com.  It did allow me to enter www.smugmug.net or www.smugmug.com but this did not allow me to use the simple upload feature in smugmug.

Just a note that Symantec resolved this on 8/13.   You should just need to LiveUpdate definitions and try it again.  Thanks, John
