Video Upload

Our new video feature accepts videos in just about any video format, such as: .mov, .AVI, most Mpeg formats, h.264, .m4a, and .m4v.  File sizes?  Power and Pro users can upload up to 10 minutes for each video.  Power users are limited to SD (640x480) and Pro can upload full HD (1920x1080).  The maximum file size allowed for any video is 600mb.

Use the Simple or Olde Faithful uploader. When you click the add photos button, we usually remember the uploader you used last time and take you to it. But near the bottom of the page on the left you'll see a link that says, "Try another uploader." Click that and choose Simple (first on the list) or Olde Faithful (last on the list).

We can't convert your videos as fast as we can prepare still images for display. It could be a while before a video is visible in your gallery but good things come to those who wait.

Video Playback

Playing SmugMug videos requires Adobe Flash Player for videos to play on the PC.

Macs requires Apple Quicktime for videos played from SmugMug and Adobe Flash Player for embedded videos

Playback Hardware requirements

Due to the different playback sizes, and thousands of hardware configurations we cannot tell you what exactly you will need.  Running applications, and background processes can cause degradation so be sure to shut down any unneeded applications if problems occur.

Most any computer from the last 2-3 years will be able to play the HD display size.   Older computer users should select the smaller sizes as needed.

Network requirements

Most broadband internet connections will be able to handle the HD playback.

For slow connections you may see stops or stutters as the video loads.  Check the status bar to see if the playback marker is catching up to the load indicator.  If it is, pause the video to allow it to load. Also, turn off any other unneeded applications that may be using the network connection.   If problems continue, try a smaller display size.

  • Video resolutions are maximums based on the width.  Different aspect ratios can result in smaller height resolutions to preserve aspect ratio.
  • The iPod/DVD and Web display copies are mathematically more square than the larger versions.

Here is a graphical representation of the display sizes and aspect ratios.   It is not actual size.  Click on this image to see a larger version.

I cannot find any information on how to grab the embed link for the video. I have looked through the interface and read all of the FAQ but nothing is helping.

What do I need to do to get an Animoto video to appear if embedded, and to appear/play correctly if I upload it?

I'm using a Windows Media Center, & up-to-date firefox.

When I upload video created by Animoto, and click on it, it appears in new window (regardless of gallery style), Very small, and the rectangle to click to make it full screen is mostly cropped off. If my cursor goes near the video box, it sputters and stops.

When I copy code to embed Animoto video, absolutely NOTHING appears. I've tried embedding it in description box of old and new Journal gallery style, and in description box of galleries.

I've contacted Animoto, but nothing's helped so far, so I'm really hoping smugmug can help me, especially since embedded Animoto video plays Fine on my blogger blog.

I'm not happy with the 10 minute limit on each video file. If I want to be restricted by that, I'll go upload to YouTube, where it's free, not pay for a Pro account with SmugMug. I can understand a 1GB file size limit, or perhaps a 60 minute limit per video file, but 10 minutes is just plain silly.

I'm disappointed with this company!  First I can't work on the files on Thursday nit because the maintance on that nit; maybe my bad luck day for me to work that nit.  Now I can't upload video with avi files after spending time recoding!  I will end my Pro account once it is finish unless this company spend more decent time listening to their clients. If you are new and want to have an account; I would say NO...go some place else.
